For my first few years in Middle School, I always thought of myself as apolitical, and I shied away from debate. My mind slowly began to change though, as I learned more history and geography, and became interested in the complex political ideologies that changed the world.

It wasn’t until my first MUN, in the 8th grade, where I discovered my love for debate, as well as gained my first general understanding of the current political landscape for the world. For the next few years, I joined more MUNs and learned more about politics, and the current conflicts and issues that plague humanity, hoping that I may one day play a part in ending them.

To this day, my favorite forum is the ICJ. I feel that its laxer debate structure, as well as its setting (in a courtroom) make it easier for advocates and judges to express their thoughts. At least, it did for me. I feel like it is one of the most important and effective branches of the UN, as I can name dozens of disputes and conflicts that it solved. To date, it is the only forum that I had the pleasure of doing multiple times, and I can only hope to give my advocates and the judges the same great experiences I had.
